A fourth night of riots have spread across Britain, including the cities of Birmingham, Wolverhampton, West Bromwich, Greater Manchester and Salford. The riots were sparked by police brutality and systemic ongoing violence against the working class and poor.

Riots flare in more English cities and towns - Canning Circus police station firebombed
- Up to 2,000 rioters stormed shops in the city of Manchester. At least 47 people have been arrested, and public transport
across the city has been suspended. - Elsewhere in the West Midlands, rioters have smashed shop windows and started fires in West Bromwich – and roads have been closed in Wolverhampton.

Wave of Violent Protests, Rioting, Bombings Hits China; Expect More Riots When China’s Credit Bubble Pops, Exposing 
Mountains of Fraud Protests are not uncommon in China. However, most protests have been in rural areas where farmers have had their land stolen by bureaucrats and property developers.
The last few weeks have been different. Several large urban areas have seen protests against corruption. A wave of violent unrest in urban areas of China over the past three weeks is testing the Communist Party’s efforts to maintain control over an increasingly complex and fractious society, forcing it to repeatedly deploy its massive security forces to contain public anger over economic and political grievances.
In the latest disturbance, armed police were struggling to restore order in a manufacturing town in southern China Monday after deploying tear gas and armored vehicles against hundreds of migrant workers who overturned police cars, smashed windows and torched government buildings there the night before. The protests, which began Friday night in Zengcheng, in the southern province of Guangdong, followed serious rioting in another city in central China last week, plus bomb attacks on government facilities in two other cities in the past three weeks, and ethnic unrest in the northern region of Inner Mongolia last month.
Antigovernment protests have become increasingly common in China in recent years, according to the government’s own figures, but they have been mainly confined to rural areas, often where farmers have been thrown off their land by property developers and local officials. The latest unrest, by contrast, involves violent protests from individuals and large crowds in China’s cities, where public anger is growing over issues including corruption and police abuses.
Protests in China have been occurring at an increasing rate. This is in spite of the fact the Chinese economy has been growing at 10% a year for a decade. What happens when China’s growth slows to 4%?

September 29, 2010: The major labor unions, CCOO and UGT, along with the anticapitalist CGT, the anarcho-syndicalist CNT (which has multiple splits), and other small unions, hold a general strike to protest the bank bailouts and proposed austerity measures included in the Labor Reform. In many city centers and industrial zones, participation in the strike is massive. In Barcelona, the streets erupt in heavy, day-long rioting. CCOO and UGT pickets, on t
he contrary, tend to be symbolic and spectacular. Both organizations subsequently sign on to the Labor Reform. Before or shortly after the strike, half a dozen neighborhoods in Barcelona form neighborhood “social assemblies.”
November 28, 2010: Elections in Catalunya replace the governing Socialist Party with the rightwing Convergencia i Unió, which adopts a hardline, pro-police rhetoric.
January 27, 2011: Acting apart from the major unions, the CGT, CNTs, and COS (a left Catalan coordination of syndicates) hold a general strike in Catalunya, which is a
lso called for in Euskadi and other parts of the Spanish state. The strike coincides with the approval of the Labor Reform, supported by the major unions and the Socialist Party (which has led the government in Madrid since 2004). In certain cities, the strike receives substantial support in the transport and manufacturing sectors, but generally achieves little participation. In Barcelona, burning barricades, sabotages, pickets, and contentious protests win a combative visibility for the strike.
May 1, 2011: In Barcelona, the anticapitalist Mayday protest, supported by the CNTs, CGT, COS, socialist indepes (Catalan independence activists), and informal or “black bloc” anarchists, leads thousands of people into the emblematic rich neighborhood, Sarrià, where protestors burn dumpsters and luxury cars, smash up approximately a hundred banks, fashion stores, and car dealerships, cover the walls in spray-painted slogans, and throw bottles and paint bombs at police before being dispersed in a heavy charge. The mood is exultant. The weeks before and after are marked by especially high quantities of sabotage and attacks.

Sunday, May 15: A recently formed platform centered in Madrid, Democracia Real Ya or “Real Democracy Now” (DRY), holds simultaneous protests in dozens of cities throughout the Spanish state, convened via Facebook, Twitter, Indymedia and various activist listservs. That night, the idea is spread via Twitter to camp out in Puerta del Sol, a central Madrid plaza, modeling on the Tahrir Square occupation in Egypt. In other cities, occupations also begin in central plazas that night or the next night.
Monday, May 16: In the evening, eighty to a hundred people begin an encampment in Plaça Catalunya, the symbolic center of Barcelona, which in the last decade has become almost exclusively a tourist zone. As in other cities, the occupation organizes itself with a general assembly. A small number of anarchists are participating. In the meeting, they argue down the proposal to sign on to the Real Democracy Now manifesto from Madrid. Many other people also express the need for the Barcelona encampment to develop independently. | Hi ha molts tipus de violència, és per tot arreu, i ningú, per més que es proclami No Violent/a, és aliè a ella. Ja sigui per activa, ja sigui per passiva els nostres actes i les nostres costums comporten grans dosis de violència per satisfer el nostre status, el nostre benestar, els nostres consums i lleures, en definitiva la nostra forma de vida. La qüestió no és si som violent/es o no, sinó si assumim que la nostra forma de vida genera violència (directa o indirectament), o pel contrari ens creiem en un estadi superior de puresa on només veiem el que volem veure, ignorant aquelles coses que ens fan sentir incomodes. Les persones que es consideren No Violentes s’haurien de plantejar si no estan delegant la violència necessària pel desenvolupament de la seva vida (còmoda vida en un país occidental, per més que ens trobem enmig d’una crisi endèmica) en els especialistes de la violència: maderos, grangers, matarifes, segurates… Delegar les nostres responsabilitats no ens fa menys responsables. De la mateixa manera que el, millor dit, la ministre de defensa és la responsable de les violacions, tortures i assassinats que cometen els soldats que prèviament ha enviat a salvar pobles que pateixen guerres i tenen petroli, nosaltres som responsables quan fem que altres actuïn violentament en el nostre benefici. Alguns exemples de violències quotidianes: VIOLÈNCIA és consumir productes d’origen animal, especialment quan aquests productes es “fabriquen” de forma intensiva, comportant llavors que els animals pateixin desde que neixen, mutilacions, violacions, segrest a cadena perpetua, engreixos forçats, amuntegament, tortures, desnutrició i maltractes varis fins la seva lenta i dolorosa mort. VIOLÈNCIA és avisar la policia quan tenim un problema que no sabem resoldre, doncs aquesta el resoldrà mitjançant la por que generen a VIOLÈNCIA és cridar-li a algú per evitar que cridi i insulti a la policia. O és que es mereix més respecte un antiavalots apallissant algú, que algú altre que senzillament crida d’impotència? O és que te més dret a cridar algú de l’Organització o de qualsevol Comissió de ves a saber que, que la resta de mortals? VIOLÈNCIA és, senzillament, consumir coses que no sabem ni d’on venen ni com és fabriquen ni de quin país en guerra provenen els seus materials, però sobretot, el més violent és no voler saber-ho per no sentir-nos còmplices, creient que ignorància és el mateix que innocència. VIOLÈNCIA és veure una pallissa dels segurates del metro a algú que s’ha colat, i no dir res, mirar al terra, seguir caminant i justificar la nostra passivitat amb el “si hagués pagat com jo, no li passaria…” VIOLÈNCIA és anar a treballar cada dia, però sobretot el dia després que han acomiadat algun o algunes companyes, i passar pel seu costat sense mirar-los a la cara pensant que “és la llei del mercat”. VIOLÈNCIA és veure una redada on quatre xavals de cara a la paret estan sent humiliats per la prepotència xenòfoba-masclista-policial, per la senzilla raó de semblar moros. I més violent és veure la indiferència al voltant, com si allò no estigués passant, potser per la por als cossos policials, potser pel racisme de gran part de la societat, o potser perquè hi ha pressa que avui juga el Barça. VIOLÈNCIA és buscar feina i haver d’humiliar-te, rebaixar-te, despullar-te moralment i menjar-te la dignitat, per pidolar una merda de treball mal pagat del que segurament et faran fora quan vulguin o quan gosis queixar-te de que fas més hores de les que cobres, o que fa dos mesos que no et paguen. VIOLÈNCIA és sentir els crits de la veïna cada vespre quan el seu marit arriba a casa mig borratxo i descarrega la impotència per la merda de vida que porta; i més violent és pujar el volum de la tele per no senti-los i no haver d’anar a trucar a la porta del davant. VIOLÈNCIA és consumir energia sense ser capaços de generar-la a petita escala, fomentant les centrals nuclears amb els seus “accidents”, o la inundació de pobles sencers per fer centrals hidràuliques, o les marees negres que de tant en tant ens visiten “per culpa d’un temporal”, o la contaminació de les tèrmiques, o que et plantin desenes de “molins sostenibles” davant de casa (de la gent que viu a pagès) VIOLÈNCIA és viure en una ciutat, fent que ens portin totes les nostres necessitats de fora, i paradoxalment, com més llunyà n’és l’origen més barat és el producte, fomentant monocultius intensius que destrossen terres llunyanes, per què les d’aquí a prop potser ja ens les hem carregat. VIOLÈNCIA és, com deia un cartell després de la vaga del 29S, aquesta normalitat en la que vivim, aquesta democràcia en la que, mentre no intentis canviar res, sempre podràs queixar-te, indignar-te i fer la pataleta VIOLÈNCIA és creure que abans que la spanishtwitterrevolution no hi havia hagut lluites molt més dignes, però més violent és veure com es rebaixen i assimilen discursos i punts mínims pseudo reformistes, persones amb una llarga trajectòria de lluita seria contra la dominació, pensant que això pot ser l’embrió d’alguna cosa. Violència és comparar aquesta pantomima amb les revoltes nord-afiricanes que han deixat desenes de mortes i ferides. Violent és estar enmig d’una multitud (de dretes i d’esquerres que més dóna) i veure-la movent les mans al vent per aprovar de demanar una reforma electoral que, tot i que som apartidistes, només beneficia als partits polítics; tot i que ningú no ens VIOLÈNCIA és… un munt de coses, moltes de les quals o en formem part o en som directament responsables, però no podem negar que l’ésser humà és l’animal més violent del planeta, som extremadament violents, i sovint, gratuïtament violentes. La qüestió és: qui està lliure de violència per imposar-li a algú altre una No Violència parcial? On és la frontera entre violència i no violència? És possible que, amb els anys i la interiorització del civisme, aquesta frontera hagi avançat assolint cada cop més situacions i maneres de fer? Serien avui violents els objectors i insubmisos que fa vint anys s’enfrontaven a penes de presó per lluitar contra els exèrcits? Ningú està lliure de pecat, tu també pots tirar la primera pedra, Amén! |
Last nights Assembly in the Pl Catalunya decided to close down most of the camp on Sunday 5th. But one point at least will continue.
The idea to give priority to the dozens of local district camps (barrios) and street Assemblies now springing up like mushrooms after the rain.
Another argument was to short cut the possible growth of personal power relations.
This decision may yet be changed at the Sunday meeting.

Hola a tod@s!!! Ayer lunes 30 de mayo, parte del grupo de acción nos reunimos y, junto
con otra gente presente en la plaza, proponemos hacer la acción
llamada “EXPRESIÓN” el próximo miércoles 1 de junio. La idea es que
todo el que quiera participe (no sólo el grupo de acción). Nos
reuniremos el miércoles 1 de junio a las 20:00 h en la plaza Dam y con
la gente que participe en la acción decidiremos cómo vamos a
desarrollar especificamente la acción.
Descripción de la acción:
- Expresión: se trata de un grupo de personas en fila (una al lado de
la otra aunque también se puede hacer de manera diferente siempre que
todas las personas participando sean visibles por el público) con la
boca tapada con esparadrapo (en línea recta o en forma de cruz)
simbolizando la opresión del sistema. Después de unos minutos y cuando
el grupo haya llamado la atención del público (simplemente por estar
quietos con el esparadrapo en la boca) uno a uno cada persona del
grupo se quita el esparadrapo y grita una palabra o reivindicación
(por ejemplo: solidaridad, libertad, etc) simbolizando que estamos
preparados para alzar nuestra voz.
El material necesario (esparadrapo ancho) será proporcionado por el
grupo de acción.
VEN A LA PLAZA Y PARTICIPA!!!!!
Grupo de trabajo de ACCIÓN
Yesterday 30th May, part of the ACTION workgroup met, and together
with other people in the square, we propose to do the action called “EXPRESSION” next
Wednesday 1st June. The idea is that everyone (who
wishes to) participates, not only the action group. We will meet next
Wednesday 1st June at 20:00 h in the Dam and with the people who wants
to participate we will decide the exact form of the action.
- Expression: it consists on a group of people in line (one next to
each other although other configurations are also possible if all the
people of the group is visible by the public) with the mouth covered
by tape or plaster (in a horizontal line or as a cross) symbolizing
the system oppression. After a few minutes and when the group has
reached the public attention (just by standing still with the tape
covering their mouths), one by one, each person in the group removes
his/her tape and shouts loud a word or demand (for example:
solidarity, freedom) symbolizing that we are ready to rise our voice.
The material needed (tape or plaster) will be provided by the action
workgroup.

Desde Sol ya podemos confirmar la afluencia masiva a las Asambleas de Barrio programadas para hoy a las 12,00 en distintas localizaciones por toda la ciudad de Madrid y localidades colindantes.
Los primeros datos que hemos recibido en Acampada Sol de los portavoces de cada Asamblea, apuntan a que millares de personas se han movilizado este mediodía para hacer oír su voz y voto en los barrios.
La convocatoria que, en principio, ha reunido a barrios y ciudades de todo Madrid, también se ha extendido por diferentes poblaciones en todo el territorio español. Al final la policia y equipos de limpeza se fueron y las multitudes tomaron de nuevo la plaza con gran alegria.

All morning 1ooo’s and more 1000′ were gathering round the square. Now occupied by the ‘mossos’, Catalan riot police. But leaving intact one bit of the camp, isolated with about 200 people still demonstrating inside. This indicated the eviction was not to be total.
They would ONLY, steal or destroy most of the equipment, stalls, tents, etc (not the tree houses). ONLY controlling everything. Using the excuse to bring in cleaning lorries and clean the whole square, while the demonstrators pressed closer on all sides.
Finaly at 12.30 the convoy of cleaning lorries moved out, robbing all the equipment, and the police running behind, some firing rubber bullet guns 
in the air.
The multitudes rushed back into the square,. We were all jumping for joy, and with more desire than ever to continue.
Tomorrow the Barça spectacle. the police have asked us to self-evict due to the danger of ‘incidents’, but no one is moving, at least until the Assembly on Sunday. The main ‘giant screen’ has been moved from the Plaza to Arc de Triomf. But right next to the Plaza Camp

We are ordinary people. We are like you: people, who get up every morning to study, work or find a job, people who have family and friends. People, who work hard every day to provide a better future for those around us.
Some of us consider ourselves progressive, others conservative. Some of us are believers, some not. Some of us have clearly defined ideologies, others are apolitical, but we are all concerned and angry about the political, economic, and social outlook which we see around us: corruption among politicians, businessmen, bankers, leaving us helpless, without a voice.
This situation has become normal, a daily suffering, without hope. But if we join forces, we can change it. It’s time to change things, time to build a better society together. Therefore, we strongly argue that:

| El capitalismo, como sistema basado en el dinero y la mercancía, en la esclavitud del trabajo asalariado y el miedo a la exclusión social, es responsable de lo que pasa. Hasta que no cuestionemos la esencia del Capital y el Estado que lo respalda, no habrá cambios sustanciales. No queremos la gestión de los hospitales, de las escuelas, de la asistencia a lxs necesitadxs (necesitadxs precisamente por la misma precariedad que produce este sistema), mientras exista dinero, mercancías y relaciones mediadas por ellos. No queremos la gestión de algo basado en los mismos presupuestos. Queremos su desaparición. Y sabemos (al menos intuimos por la fuerza de la memoria, de la historia) que no habrá cambio sin violencia porque lxs que viven bien a costa de esto no querrán perder sus derechos. Entre ellxs políticos, empresarios, banqueros, especuladores de todo pelaje, comerciantes… Esto, a nuestro pesar.
Desde hoy los telediarios ya empiezan a cuestionar las acampadas. Ahora ya dan problemas. Desde lxs que llevan un negocio al lado y se ven afectados en sus ventas hasta los que distribuyen mercancías y ven dificultado el paso. Porque habrá problemas para celebrar la victoria del Barça o porque hay que hacer un desfile militar. Las excusas son variadas. La noticia ya no satisface el ansia de novedad. Es lo que tiene la vida de consumo y el consumo de la vida. Si se quiere seguir adelante habrá que decidir si sequiere cuestionar realmente el status quo del capitalismo o replegarse hasta desaparecer tras 5, 10 ó 15 propuestas formales de mejorar lo existente (en nuestro ámbito nacional[1]) y esperar a que ‘nuestros políticos’ las hagan realidad. Y luego… hasta ´el próximo momento de indignación. La alternativa pasa por interrumpir la circulación del capital, la toma de lo que necesitamos, la ruptura con los gestores de la salud, de la educación, de la seguridad, de la defensa, de la cultura… y la propia organización y autogestión. Seguro que todxs no estaremos de acuerdo, pero habrá que arriesgarse. [1] No olvidemos que lxs griegxs dependen también de lo que hagamos el resto de explotadxs de otros países. En los últimos días piden solidaridad internacional. Allí las condiciones son ya insostenibles y el Capital no tiene nada que ofrecerles, por lo que la represión es la respuesta del Estado. Neighbourhoods: belgravia spain westminster
… people kept shouting last night outside the Spanish embassy in Belgravia. Since Wednesday 18th large crowds of mainly spaniards living in London are following a call to demonstrate and to express anger about the “political, economic, and social outlook which we see around us: corruption among politicians, businessmen, bankers, leaving us helpless, without voice.”
On Friday 20th around 300 people showed up at Chesham Place for a ‘pots & pans’ protest, coinciding with hundreds of ‘cacerolazo’ protests called thorughout Spain as part of the ‘Spanish Revolution’ currently taking place all over the country. After the protest, a public assembly took place where, amongst other things, people debated the practicalities of setting up camp till Sunday 22nd. As a result, around 50 people spent the night outside the embassy, and there are plans for further demonstrations today Saturday and Tomorrow Sunday [See Real Democracy London blog]
Latest: Protest set to continue this week. Daily popular assembly takes place from 7 to 9pm.

El movimiento 15-M no desmantelará sus campamentos esta noche como estaba previsto. La asamblea de la concentración de la madrileña Puerta del Sol ha decidido permanecer, de momento, una semana más con la protesta en demanda de una democracia real. El próximo sábado se votará en los barrios y el próximo domingo volverán a decidir su futuro.
Nadie sabe. Que pasará con el movimiento ‘Toma la Calle’ ya que acaban las elecciones.
La policia militarizado esperan con ganas el orden de ‘limpiar’ la calle.
Los jovenes han aprovechado las elecciones falsas y deshonestas para ocupar un trozo de libertad.
Los reaccionarios esperan manipular las asambleas libres para enviar tod*s a casa.
Los ‘indignados’ no tienen experiencia en la lucha callejera, y para algunos engañados luchar
en si contradice su ‘pacifismo de clase media’.
La cosa tiene mala pinta.

‘Impossible’ say the Catalan police, to evict the big camp occupying the main square
Los Mossos d’Esquadra no acudirán en la noche del viernes al sábado a la plaza de Cataluña de Barcelona para identificar a nadie, han confirmado a Europa Press fuentes de la Conselleria de Interior de la Generalitat.
Así lo han decidido este viernes por la noche después de haber podido notificar a una persona relacionada con la movilización la decisión de la Junta Electoral Central (JEC) de prohibir las reuniones y concentraciones entre las 0.00 horas del sábado y las 24 del domingo, durante la jornada de reflexión y la electoral.
Desde Interior se ha levantado acta conforme esta persona ha recibido por la tarde su notificación, según las mismas fuentes.
La Conselleria había decidido emitir mediodía un comunicado sobre la manifestación “ante la imposibilidad física y material de comunicar el acuerdo a cada uno de los convocantes y participantes de estas concentraciones –ya que nadie se ha erigido como portavoz oficial–”.

- La Junta Electoral Central y la Provincial han declarado ilegales las concentraciones en la jornada de reflexión y en las elecciones del domingo.
- La Policía ha recibido la consigna de no desalojar la acampada de Sol mientras no se produzcan incidentes. Sí informará de que la concentración es ilegal.
- La prohibición de la JEC ha provocado un efecto llamada en Sol.
- Los acampados realizaron un exitoso “grito mudo” a medianoche.

Los asistentes a la concentración en la Puerta del Sol han recibido al grito de “insumisión” la decisión de la Junta Electoral Central de vetar las concentraciones para el próximo sábado y domingo.
Tras conocer la decisión de la Junta Electoral, en la emblemática plaza madrileña se han conformado pequeñas asambleas por parte de los organizadores y se han desencadenado gritos de “insumisión” por parte de los asistentes.
Según han confirmado fuentes de la plataforma a Europa Press, se ha convocado paraº a las 13.00 horas una asamblea general con el objetivo principal de confirmar la insumisión.
La Junta Electoral Central ha determinado que las concentraciones y manifestaciones del movimiento 15 de mayo no se podrán celebrar entre las cero horas del sábado, jornada de reflexión, hasta las 24 horas del domingo, fin del día de votación en las elecciones autonómicas y municipales.

Revolt burns in us on this day, Monday May 16th, because to live is to rebel. Thus, in the spirit of solidarity with those in struggle in Greece, we blocked a busy intersection in the business district of Seattle during rush hour with a banner that read: “Revolt burns in us. The time is now. From the first sparks, we are with you.”
This intersection is outside an office of Goldman Sachs, architects of the financial crisis that set the stage for the IMF takeover of Greece.
Hundreds of leaflets were afloat as the citizens gaped, open mouthed, but our actions are not for them.
This brief halt in the normal movement of the city traffic was a small gesture committed out of our hatred for this world.
The time is now.
From the first sparks of rebellion we conspire because the only reason to live is for a dream of what is not.
We are with you. Not out of pity or duty but because solidarity is our weapon.
Spain’s Tahrir Square
Pablo Ouziel’s ZSpace PagSpain’s people’s movement seems to be finally awakening as la Puerta del Sol in Madrid begins to look like it may 
become the country’s Tahrir Square, and the ‘Arab Spring’ may be joined by what is now bracing to become a long ‘European Summer’. As people across the Arab world continue their popular struggle for justice, peace and democracy, Spain’s disillusioned citizens have finally begun to catch on as well. Slow at first, hopeful that Spain’s dire economic conditions would magically correct themselves, the Spanish street has finally begun to understand that democratic and economic justice and peace will not come from the pulpits of the country’s corrupt political elite.
Amidst local and regional election campaigns, with the banners of the different political parties plastered across the country’s streets, people are saying ‘enough!’ Disillusioned youth, unemployed, pensioners, students, immigrants and other disenfranchised groups have been inspired by the Arab world and are now also demanding a voice – demanding an opportunity to live with dignity.
As the country continues to implode economically, unemployment grows incessantly leaving one in two young people unemployed across many of the country’s regions. With many in the crumbling middle class on the verge of losing their homes while bankers profit from their loss and the government uses citizen taxes to expand the military industrial complex by going off to war; the people have begun to grasp that they only have each other if they are to rise from the debris of the militarized political and economic nightmare in which they have found themselves. Will thousands in protest become tens and hundreds of thousands? It is beginning to look like they might.
And in this way, Spain is finally, one hopes, re-embracing its radical past, its popular movements, its anarcho-syndicalist traditions and its republican dreams. Crushed by Generalissimo Francisco Franco seventy years ago, it seemed that Spanish popular culture would never recover from the void left by a rightwing dictatorship, which exterminated anyone with a dissenting voice; but the 15th of May 2011, is the reminder to those in power that Spanish direct democracy is still alive and has finally begun to awaken.
In the 1970s a transition through pact, transformed Spain’s totalitarian structures into a representative democracy in which all the economic structures remained intact. For the highly illiterate generations of the time, suffering in the reality of a poverty-stricken country, the concessions made by the country’s elite seemed something worth celebrating. Nevertheless, as the decades passed, the state-owned corporations were privatized robbing the nation of its collective wealth, and the political scene crystallized into a pseudo-democracy in which two large parties — PP and PSOE — marginalized truly democratic alternatives. As this neoliberal political project materialized, the discontent began to resurface, but the fear mongers — Spain’s baby-boomers who had once fought for democracy — were quick to remind the youth of the dangers of rebellion. For many decades in Spain the mantra was, ‘it is better to live as we are than to go back to the totalitarianism of the past, and if you shake the system too much, it will take away our hard-earned rights’. So the youth remained silent, fearful of what could happen if they spoke, and the baby-boomers in their compromise blamed the youth for their indifference. According to them, it was the youth — who were unwilling to work — which were bringing the country to its knees. But the youth have stopped this blame game, and aware of the true risks to their future are finally enticing the whole country to mobilize.
A failed European project, with its borders quickly being reinstated, a collapsing Euro currency, and the examples of Greece, Portugal and Ireland are the reminders to those on the streets of what it is they are fighting to disassociate themselves from, and of the freedoms they are working towards. The economic and political project of the country’s elite has destroyed the economic dreams of whole generations of naïve and apathetic Spaniards. It has left the country in the hands of bond speculators and central bankers, and Spaniards will have to pay that price. Nevertheless, the debt accumulated by the Spanish family, has also earned it the education with which it can understand what is going on, and through it Spanish people appear to be ready to liberate themselves from the tyranny of their government.
What has begun in Madrid’s Puerta del Sol and has been echoed in fifty-two cities across the country is the birth of a popular movement for freedom, which has no intention of fading away. The people have no choice, either they take city squares as symbols of their struggle, or their message is never heard. The government knows this and that is why it has quickly responded by trying to disperse the crowds with its repressive police force. But following some arrests, the people are back with more strength.
A silent revolution has begun in Spain, a nonviolent revolution which seeks democracy through democratic means, justice through just means, and peace through peaceful means has finally captivated the imagination of the Spanish people, and now there is no turning back. The challenge ahead will be in keeping the collective spirit nonviolent as the police force does everything in its power to disintegrate the movement into a violent chaos that can justify its repression. The popular movement will also have to be alert as the bond speculators threaten the country with economic sanctions in order to scare the population into submission, and a constructive program will have to be articulated so that the movement can continue to function whilst providing sustainable alternatives for a different Spain.
Hopefully an articulate steering committee will flourish soon from amongst the crowds, which is capable of making clear and viable demands that grab the imagination of the country and force the political elite to comply. These are delicate times in Spain, if this spontaneous nonviolent movement succeeds, Spain may welcome a brighter future. If it fails, I fear violence will become the only option for those in pain. What those outside of the country can do for Spain is to echo the shouts of indignation coming from the country’s streets. So far both mainstream and progressive international media channels have opted for silence. Let us hope this silence breaks.

La #spanishrevolution ha dejado de ser un movimiento sólo de España y ha empezado a traspasar fronteras, sobre todo en Europa
Juan Cobo, portavoz de #acampadasol, ha declarado a Público.es que están sobrepasados por la cantidad de llamadas que están recibiendo de otros países del mundo. “Nos llaman de Colombia, Costa Rica, México, Venezuela, Argentina… Quieren entrevistarnos e informarse del movimiento”, ha se
ñalado. Por el momento, les consta que ya se están preparando acampadas en México DF y en Buenos Aires.
En Europa, las convocatorias para concentrarse se han ido multiplicando a lo largo de la mañana y en países como Italia (#italianrevolution), Reino Unido (#ukrevolution), Francia (#frenchrevolution), Alemania (#germanrevolution), Bélgica, Dinamarca y Portugal ya son toda una realidad.
Fuerte apoyo en Italia
Italia ha sido el país que más se ha movilizado. La voz empezó a correr ayer a través de dos grupos en Facebook: Italian Revolution – Democrazia Reale Ora y Democracia Real Ya – Roma, que han conseguido convocar protestas en 13 ciudades, incluidas Roma, Turín, Milán Bolonia o Florencia.

El movimiento se transmitió también gracias a Twitter con el hashtag #italianrevolution y consiguió llamar la atención del Popolo Viola y del grupo Anonymous italiano.
La iniciativa se divide en dos grupos. Por una parte están los estudiantes erasmus y trabajadores españoles que decidieron movilizarse siguiendo el ejemplo de la Puerta del Sol y por otro, los propios italianos que han adoptado el cartel de Democracia Real Ya y le han colocado en medio la frase “La 
Italia de nuestro descontento”. En cualquier caso, es seguro que ambos grupos se van a juntar en cada una de esas ciudades
Tanto en Twitter como en Facebook se han querdio transmitir las ideas que están inspirando al movimiento 15M y se ha llamado a respetar unas normas para que todas las manifestaciones tengán la máxima credibilidad. Se pide que la gente acuda sin banderas de ningún partido ni de sindicatos y que elaboren “carteles personales, de grupo, lo que se os ocurra que mejor pueda representarnos”.
Como sucede en Madrid, se recomienda llevar “cualquier dispositivo con el que nos podamos conectar con las redes sociales de Twitter o Facebook” para “difundir lo que vamos a hacer en todos los medios”.
Los organizadores advierten de que “es posible que legalmente no estaremos amparados: no hemos avisado de la sentada aún porque todo esto se ha organizado esta tarde en cuestión de horas. Mañana [por hoy] intentaremos comunicarnos con las autoridades [...] Es importante que este viernes todo se lleve a cabo con el mayor de los respetos”.
Por último, recuerdan que no se lleve “ningún tipo de bebida alcoholica. No se trata de un botellón [...] Es importante que la imagen que mostremos al exterior tenga credibilidad”.
Londres, París, Copenhague, Amsterdam…
En el resto de países, las concentraciones se realizarán en las respectivas embajadas españolas: en Londres a las 19.30 horas ante la embajada de España; en Francia desde el perfil de Facebook Pour une vrai démocratie, se llama a manifestarse en París a las 20.00 horas también delante de la embajada española. En Alemania se han convocado manifestaciones en Berlín, siempre frente a la embajada española, para esta tarde y mañana, informa Patricia Baelo.
“Se recomienda llevar cualquier dispositivo con el conectarse a Twitter o Facebook” En Dinamarca, la concentración será el próximo sábado 21 a las 18.00 horas en la embajada española en Copenhague; y en Bélgica, tendrá lugar en Bruselas mañana viernes a las 18.30 horas. La convocatoria también está siendo seguida desde Amsterdam, Holanda, con una concentración convocada esta tarde para las 20.00 horas; y en Lisboa, la manifestación tendrá lugar a las 19.00 horas de hoy.

La lluvia no pudo con la Acampada SolNo piensan moverse de allí, al menos durante esta semana. Los seguidores del movimiento ciudadano que ha “tomado” la Puerta del Sol para pedir un sistema “más democrático” llevan cuatro noches durmiendo al raso. La ocupación de la plaza madrileña -que tiene réplicas en muchos otros lugares públicos de España- comenzó de manera espontánea el domingo, cuando un grupo de los que habían participado esa tarde en la marcha convocada por Democracia Real Ya decidió quedarse a pasar la noche en la calle para mostrar el alcance de su descontento.
10.30 La Junta Electoral Provincial de Madrid se reunirá a lo largo de esta mañana para analizar la acampada, después de que ayer se incumpliera su resolución en la que no se autorizaba la concentración. Fuentes cercanas a este organismo han explicado que la decisión es “vinculante” y de “obligado cumplimiento”, por lo que ahora tendrán que analizar qué medidas tomar ante la comprobación de que se ha pasado por alto.
9.30 Un grupo de internautas promueve una petición popular para que la Junta Electoral Central revoque hoy la decisión de la Junta madrileña y de otras jurisdicciones que ayer desautorizaron las concentraciones del movimiento nacido el 15M. La iniciativa tiene hasta el momento unas 39.000 adhesiones. La Junta Electoral Central tiene previsto estudiar este jueves la incidencia de las movilizaciones en la campaña electoral y en la jornada de reflexión del sábado.
8.30 Los manifestantes recogen, una vez más, tiendas, cartones y lonas y se ocupan de limpiar la plaza, mientras ajustan el calendario de asambleas y reuniones de comités para este jueves.
8.00 Alrededor de dos centenares de personas han dormido la noche de este miércoles en la madrileña Puerta del Sol, a pesar de la intensa lluvia, y orgullosos del seguimiento que ha conseguido el movimiento 15M desde el pasado domingo. “Llueve y llueve y la plaza no se mueve”, han coreado los participantes en la cuarta noche de acampada, que ha transcurrido sin incidentes después de una nueva concentración multitudinaria durante la tarde.
2.10 Se celebran comités para organizar la acampada, que se ocupan de buscar provisiones, mantas y tiendas para pasar la noche. También hay grupos que limpian la plaza y que intentan controlar que no se beba. “La gente está respondiendo muy bien”, ha dicho un portavoz del movimiento identificado como Charly, que ha explicado que los bares de la zona les facilitan alimentos y les permiten usar los baños. Asimismo, varias personas se ofrecen voluntarias para traducir a distintos idiomas el manifiesto del movimiento 15M. Los manifestantes debatieron en una asamblea las propuestas para construir “una democracia real desde la base, desde las personas”, en palabras del portavoz.
