Support the Resistance. No Military Coup in Bolivia! Milwaukee, Nov 16, Emergency Rally!

The center of La Paz has been transformed into a scenario of barricades, queues to purchase in the few businesses that are open, transportation halted, neighbours stationed on corners crossed by barbed wires and zinc sheets.

Near Plaza Murillo, the center of political power, groups pass by wearing helmets, shields, gas masks, Bolivian flags, police contingents betting on each other and asking for reinforcement from the National Armed Force (FAB). The scenes seen during the afternoon reminded many in central and southern La Paz that half of the country that voted for Evo Morales exists and will not stand idly by.

Fascist brutality and intimidation

The coup d’etat against the Evo Morales government in Bolivia was consumed. Now the most terrifying thing is coming against the Bolivian people, particularly against the working class, against grassroots and indigenous organizations, against critical thinking, against anyone who opposes capitalist plundering, the depredation of nature, the exploitation.

The declared Catholic fundamentalism and the abject racism, the most brutal misogyny and the nostalgia of the time of the crusades are coming (they are announcing the actions and proclamations of the coup plotters); the intensification of the plundering of Lithium, of gas, of silver, of gold, of tin, of iron, of springs and other natural wealth, comes greater exploitation against the workers, hunger and extermination against the people, mountains and rivers capitalized by a handful of multinationals and landowners.

Under the Evo government, free education was guaranteed, access to drinking water was universalized, children, pregnant women and the elderly had essential guarantees, Universal Health Insurance was created, etc.

Now what comes with the religious fanatic coup plotters and eager to intensify the capitalist plundering, is the privatization of education, the dismantling of the Universal Health Insurance so that a handful of capitalists can profit through their private medical insurers.

The privatization of health will kill the millions of people who cannot afford private insurance due to medical absence. They may also introduce private pension funds, to speculate on gigantic capitals, while the pensions of the elderly will reduce them to a macabre misery, like what they did in Chile.

Under the government of Evo Morales, the capital generated by mining and taxes in social services was invested to implement an improvement in the quality of life of the most impoverished people of the exploited class (but capitalism was not questioned at the root and there remained an exploited class and an exploiting class);

Social measures obviously represented a relief for thousands of Bolivian families, but like any measure that does not modify the structure of the socioeconomic system, its durability had an expiration date. It had an expiration date because the exploiting class never ceases in its eagerness to deepen the levels of exploitation and looting, given that based on these mechanisms it is enriched.

We strongly condemn the military coup in Bolivia, and extends our solidarity to the Bolivian people who are struggling to defend the massive gains won under the leadership of President Evo Morales in the face of this counter-revolution. U.S. imperialism is clearly the sponsor of the coup and we are outraged at this crime against Bolivian sovereignty and democracy.

Come rally with us at the Stand for Peace Rally, which has been upheld on a weekly basis for many years by Peace Action Wisconsin, to condemn US intervention in the democratic affairs of a sovereign state. The battle in Bolivia and all of Latin America continues between the forces that want to empower the people and those that want to restore the power and wealth of…
