We can’t afford another 50 years of relying on extreme energy and endless economic growth at the cost of human and planetary health.

Williston, Vt. – Members of the Stop the Fracked Gas Pipeline Campaign are blocking pipeline construction, enforcing what they call a “keep fossil fuels in the ground” strategy to avert the worst impacts of global warming.

Several people are locked to equipment, and others are blocking an access road to stop construction. Participants say they need to take direct action to stop the pipeline because state regulators and Governor Shumlin have refused to cancel permits, despite a groundswell of opposition to the project over the past three years. The anti airport movement proposes an anti-capitalist assembly based revolution

After avoiding the police checkpoints, heading down road D42 and passing multiple barricades made out of wood, tires, hay bales and anything else burnable, you will eventually find yourself staring at a hand-painted sign: ‘welcome to the ZAD’. ZAD Reocupación: 20,000 toman el solar /Re-take Airport Site!

17th November 2012 – Today marks the full-force reoccupation of an area known as the ZAD (zone à défendre – zone to defend) in Notre Dame des Landes, Brittany, France. In response to the brutal eviction and bulldozing of various farms, the disruption of livestock and tear-gas poisoning of vegetable gardens by riot police during the last week of October 2012, between 20,000 and 40,000 people are estimated to be on-site today. They are constructing cabins and cleaning up the land to get it ready to be inhabited once again. You can check out a weekend-long livestream here: http://ow.ly/flopU. French gendarmes police have failed to evict all opponents of a project to build an international irport in Notre-Dame-des-Landes, in western France. The area is currently protected swampland and local farmers were among the protestors.

Nantes, France: Call for reoccupation demonstration on 17/11 in the ZAD, where the fight against repressive forces is still raging

To the developers, the ZAD is merely a ‘deferred development zone’ since decades. To fighters, this is a zone to be defended (Zone À Défendre). Either way, the space is located in the countryside north of Nantes, in France. According to the Power, it should make way for industrialist plans, and particularly an international airport of Notre-Dame-des-Landes. The particular mega-project is in the hands of the multinational corporation Vinci, which also provides other ‘services’ worldwide, such as prison facilitiestoll highways, nuclear power stations, and so forth. Real green living ??

degrowth

by HeatherRogers

The eco-village of Vauban in Germany signposts one answer to climate change, reports Heather Rogers

Over the past decade, an eco‑friendly marketplace has been unleashed across the west. Thanks to consumer demand, the organic food business has grown by double digits every year for the past 15 – waning only briefly in 2009 due to the recession. Automakers are turning out more gas-electric hybrids and full electrics than ever before; biofuel markets are escalating every year; and the global carbon trade is now worth over $30 billion annually.

The promise implicit in these changes is that global warming can be stopped by swapping dirty products for green ones, with little disruption to daily life. Getting behind the wheel of a gas-electric hybrid is not so different from driving a regular car. Ethanol and biodiesel are the same as ordinary petrol. And paying a little extra for an airline ticket to cancel out CO2 emissions takes almost no effort at all……  /cont..
