Candid Confessions Of 635 Former Climate Change Deniers

Who is the enemy leading us to Climate Catastrophe?

Before beginning, a note is in order. No one is claiming Kirk’s analysis is scientifically or statistically valid. Nevertheless, it is a useful tool for understanding the factors climate change deniers base their beliefs on.

Kirk ends her discussion with perhaps the most cogent and useful advice of all. “Be nice,” she says. “None of the commenters lauded the effectiveness of flaming arguments, shaming, or condescending treatment. Letting go of a long-held belief is hard.We can support people and give them rational, relatable reasons to appreciate the science of climate change. We have the evidence and the credibility on our side. Let’s not squander the high ground.” Amen to that, Karin. Ready to learn more? Let’s go.

Family Values Most Common Source Of Science Resistant Beliefs

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Most people tend to adopt the worldview of their parents, family, and social group. Children of Democrats tend to be Democrats themselves. The same is true of Republicans. Religious beliefs and ethnic mores tend are transmitted from parents to children. The following comments were typical. The Evidence: Is Rex Tillerson of Exxon the Top Climate Killer?

trump-and-rexreblogging evidence against RexExxon Climate Criminal Rex Tillerson has knowingly caused runaway Climate Change, which is leading to the extinction of millions of species, including YOU and ME, and is already killing thousands around the planet.

Climate criminal number one — Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson

by There’s no better face of climate catastrophe than ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson. Exxon’s size alone makes Tillerson our “Ace of Spades” climate criminal. (And I vote David and Charles Koch, in that order, as the King and Queen — but more on these rankings in a bit.)

Mr. Tillerson first hit these pages (and our radar) in this post — Who is the enemy leading us to Climate Catastrophe? Here we quote Bill McKibben, who quotes Naomi Klein: Continue reading “The Evidence: Is Rex Tillerson of Exxon the Top Climate Killer?”

Exxon’s top Climate Murderer to be Secretary of State: 350.org comment

NEW YORK CITY – President-elect Donald Trump announced on Saturday afternoon that he has selected ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson as his Secretary of State nomination. 350.org Executive Director May Boeve issued the following reaction:

“This is unfathomable. We can’t let Trump put the world’s largest oil company in charge of our international climate policy. Tillerson may be a friend of Putin’s, but he’s no friend of the planet. ExxonMobil is still a leading funder of climate denial and is pursuing a business plan that will destroy our future. Tillerson deserves a federal investigation, not federal office.

dapl_protest_0We’ll be pressuring Senators to turn the confirmation process into a hearing on ExxonMobil’s history of climate deception. If Exxon is found guilty of working with other oil companies to deceive the public and their shareholders about the threat of climate change, they could be on the hook for fraud and racketeering charges. It would be the largest corporate scandal in history and could not only stop Tillerson’s appointment, but take down the entire company. ‘Exxon Killed The Reef’..Campaign To Stop Climate Criminals

exxon new

In 2016, the world witnessed the most devastating mass coral bleaching event ever recorded.

These reefs didn’t just die, they were killed. Help us spread the word and hold Exxon and their fossil fuel peers to account.

shared from 350.org with thanks

The seas of dead coral are a crime scene.

This year, the world witnessed the most devastating mass coral bleaching event ever recorded which left behind dead reefs in at least 38 countries. Many of these reefs will never recover.

The immediate cause is clear: the ongoing rise in global ocean temperatures that comes from climate change. But that’s like saying “he was killed by a bullet.” The important question is: who fired the gun?

We know who the biggest culprits are. For decades Exxon and their fossil fuel industry peers covered up how much they knew about climate change. #ExxonKnew the truth about the damage they were doing, but instead of telling the public, they chose to hide what they knew behind a campaign of lies and denial and robbed the world of a generation’s worth of time to reverse climate change. Climate Chaos caused #Bopha /Pablo. Oil Companies to be Sued ??

Final Update 25 dec 2012   Over 1000 dead.   Despair Sweeps bopha Survivors http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/features/2012/12/201212237565413785.html

Super Typhoon BOPHA with 275kph winds to hit Philippines.. update  the massacre toll has risen to at least 500 with more than 400 others reported missing and about quarter of a million people made homeless. At least three cities on Mindanao’s east coast remain cut off after bridges collapsed and roads were swept away by floodwater.

**************************************+

As they become more common, climate related disasters may allow prosecution of the big Oil Companies, which they could be sued for billions for willfully dumping CO2 in the air for profit, with clean alternatives available.

DOHA, Qatar — A delegate from typhoon-hit Philippines demanded Thursday that ministers at the United Nations climate talks put aside their political differences and take bold steps to combat global warming. In an emotional appeal, Naderev Sano spoke of the "heartbreaking tragedy" of Typhoon Bopha, which has so far killed more than 350 people and left hundreds of thousands homeless, and urged participants at the U.N. climate conference in the Qatari capital to stop procrastinating on committing to halting the dangerous trend.

You cannot say that one climate massacre is caused only by climate change, but statistically we know that they are. Just as a child with thyroid cancer living next to Fukushima may have contracted it by chance, but if the cancer rate has increased 1000%, then nine out of ten victims are caused by the Nuclear meltdown.

To take that analogy further, if ten possible victims of Climate Chaos sued Exxon, nine of them would be real victims, only we can’t say which nine…. Continue reading “Climate Chaos caused #Bopha /Pablo. Oil Companies to be Sued ??”
