Lentillères Free District: Occupied Urban Gardens Grow Community ZAD

For the 2017 Networks of Resistance conference reports, see Pt. 1 – ZAD, Bure, Hambach Forest & Pt. 2 – Infrastructure; ExarcheiaNet & Cooperativa Integral

Starting with a protest in the center of Dijon, France, in the midst of a chilly day in 2010, about 150 people embarked for an abandoned lot, cleaned it up, occupied the area, and formed the Lentillères (lentil garden).

Family farms produce 80 percent of world’s foodOnly 1 percent of the world’s farms are larger than 50 hectares, but this small group controls 65 percent of the world’s agricultural land, the FAO report said. Farms smaller than one hectare account for 72 percent of all farms, but control only 8 percent of agricultural land

Eight years later, the urban gardens of the Lentillères encompasses a free zone of over nine hectares that is, by its existence, resisting against development projects while demonstrating “another way of being that [is] non-hierarchical and egalitarian and free.”

[Lentillères is] a mixture of the preservation of agricultural land, the promotion of agricultural land, mixed in with living spaces and collective spaces.” – Presenter from Lentillères

Dijon, the capital of France’s Golden Coast in the Burgundy region famous for wine and monasteries, is an area rich in history and home to 250,000 people. Presenters said that politicians and developers utilize the history to attract investment. The municipality has been busy with plans to modernize Dijon by building new streets, shopping centers, and installing thousands of CCTV cameras. Developers in Dijon now plan to build 15 new housing projects in what they call ‘eco-quarters’ by 2020.

Recent history of anarcho-punk culture from 1980s-90s is also embedded in the city. Massive “anarcho-fun gigs” in the squatted industrial wastelands of Dijon took place in efforts to reclaim space from capitalism.

The more accepting culture of squatting and land defense in France helped lead to the local, socialist-run government of Dijon essentially allowing anti-capitalists and anarchists to take the space they desired with no problems, the presenters said.

The continued occupation of the land by over twelve collectives and more than 100 people living in the Lentillères are now threatened by the second phase of the encroaching ‘eco-quarters’ project. Continue reading “Lentillères Free District: Occupied Urban Gardens Grow Community ZAD”

Catalonia: Kan Bici resists! Week of Resistance against the eviction, 4 till 11 May

Hi comrades and friends! The eviction of Kan Bici is probably taking place on May 10th 2018 and it is assumed that the “forces of order” will do their dirty work in one way another.

We want to invite you to participate in the activities that we have been able to prepare for the week of resistance (still missing things to confirm). We ask for the maximum distribution of the posters added to this mail. in ENGLISH

Apart from the prepared activities there is the call for decentralized actions for the day of eviction that leaves  a “free hand” to all of you to act  according to anarchist/revolutionary ideas against the system of domination and his defenders.

Between all we can prevent the eviction of Kan Bici!
Long live the Anarchy!

Edouard Phillipe, the first disaster, speaks of “to put an end to the illegal occupation”. The prefect meets his chiefs today. More info to come!

We stay in ALERT EXPULSIONS! We always call you to come support us on the spot, if you can, or to act from your home! Continue reading “ZAD resists Militarization and Evictions: State offers to Legalise ‘Approved Projects’”

Invitation for a revolutionary May 1st: Paris + Russian Anarchist Solidarity

May Day in Paris: Invitation for a revolutionary May 1st

After the invitation of “Les Paves” to come to Paris on the first of May, we now publish another call to come to Paris.

Here is the full call:

Macron’s power has decided to break the social protests by force, revealing the brutal face of repression under the mask of a smiling modernity.

Military attack against the ZAD, destruction of places of life, expulsions, beating students with batons, isolation of railway workers, disinformation: these maneuvers intended to prove the authority of the state are rather the symptoms of an anxious government, panicked by the growth of a  more and more powerful and multiform movement.

The strike at the SNCF is massively followed, disrupting rail traffic, the blockades and occupations of universities multiply as rarely for more than a decade, networks are growing, alliances are formed, several other sectors join the struggle, the NDDL’s comrades withstand each day with more determination while support committees are active across the country, in short, people everywhere are reappropriating TO BEAT THE RIGHT.  Since this morning, the state has done everything possible to break this huge surge of solidarity: there are road blocks and checkpoints everywhere; police checkpoint policeman at the exit lanes of the motorways, asking drivers not to to try to go to the solidarity gathering.

Solidarity from Milan, front of a Squat, with Italians, Portugueses, Greeks, Cypriots, Romanians, Czechs, Serbians, Scottish, French. Continue reading “[ZAD] The Battle to Rebuild .. Solidarity spreads Everywhere”

Live and Love the Revolution: at Self managed Anarcho-Pirate Camp: ZAD!

Notre-Dame-Des-Landes, France: Callout for self-managed anarcho-pirate camp

At the camp of the ANGRY Lama (or the “LA Masacrée”) [at the Zad], we are not giving up and we over-occupy.

A tent houses the kitchen (vegan / freegan), the new building with a wooden floor continues to rise, with three walls, a roof and a large bay window, trees were planted …

We meet every day to build, exchange, monitor the cops who monitor us (nice atmosphere of de-escalation …). We organize ourselves.

Because we do not want to manage everything or manage others, but create the breeding ground to give birth to an organisation done by and for all, without giving place to power struggles, without structural oppression (sex, race, class, .. .).
