A fascist attack destroys the Ateneu Popular de Sarrià

Again, today at about three in the morning, the Ateneu Popular de Sarrià has suffered a fire, which has left the site destroyed. Awaiting the firemen’s report, they have already advanced that the building will probably have to be demolished due to its bad condition.
The centre was still being rebuilt after another fascist attack last November. The fascists are well known but enjoy impunity, encouragement and even financial aid via the Spanish State for hundreds of attacks in a bid to stifle public support for imprisoned Catalan activists and politicians.
The Ateneu Popular de Sarrià was born on December 10, 2015, when a group of youth from the neighborhood called by the Youth Assembly of Sarrià-Esberla occupied the farmhouse on Calle Hort de la Vila, 29. Un atac feixista calcina l’Ateneu Popular de Sarrià
De nou, avui cap a les tres de la matinada, l’Ateneu Popular de Sarrià ha patit un incendi, que ha deixat el local destrossat. A l’espera de l’informe de bombers, ja han avançat que probablement l’edifici s’haurà d’enderrocar degut a les males condicions en què ha quedat. Al pati ha aparegut la pintada “Estáis muertos CDR”, esvàstiques i creus cèltiques, segons han pogut comprovar membres de l’Ateneu. Tot i així, la Guàrdia Urbana, segons les ocupants, ha fet constar en el seu informe «causes desconegudes» i els han confirmat que l’immoble ha estat en flames durant cinc hores.
No és la primera vegada que ataquen la seu de diferents col·lectius del barri. Segons membres de l’Ateneu, els atacs s’han intensificat des de la celebració del referèndum, el passat 1 d’octubre. Abans, ja hi havien trobat pintades feixistes al pati, però el 18 de novembre un grup va aconseguir entrar al local trencant la finestra posterior i van provocar greus destrosses: mobles trencats, cartells esquinçats, material fet malbé i pintades amb el símbol del jou i les fletxes adoptat per la Falange i el franquisme. L’atac es va produir precisament el mateix dia que s’havia celebrat una concentració unionista a plaça Artós.
L’Ateneu Popular de Sarrià va néixer el 10 de desembre del 2015, quan un grup de joves del barri convocades per l’Assemblea de Joves de Sarrià-Esberla va okupar la masia del carrer Hort de la Vila 29, propietat de l’Ajuntament. Alhora, el pati i el pàrquing del costat pertany a la immobiliària La Llave de Oro, que hi ha projectat un aparcament soterrani i una promoció d’habitatges. Mentre la masia continuï okupada, l’empresa no pot desenvolupar les obres perquè posaria en risc la integritat de l’immoble.
Des d’aleshores ha estat focus d’atacs en forma de pintades, silicona al pany o destrosses a la porta, que han denunciat reiteradament. Membres de l’Ateneu esperen ara saber si podran recuperar algunes pertinences, però els bombers no permeten l’entrada a ningú pel risc que suposa. Les conseqüències d’aquest darrer atac probablement seran irreversibles i de moment, diverses entitats del barri ja els han ofert suport i espai per fer les reunions i activitats que es desenolvupaven a l’Ateneu fins ara.
